When I saw the announcement for Craig Freshly's new book I ordered it immediately. I have never met Mr Freshly but have enjoyed his words of wisdom that I have received via email periodically (available at [...]
As one who facilitates many groups of scientists and resource managers, I find his principles and applications to be spot-on. They always seem to bring a well-centered human element forward - something that I have found lacking in many technical meetings.
The content of this book is not technical nor comprehensive. It is a collection of think-pieces about how groups work best together. The format is a series of 100 concepts each presented on a single page. A perfect reflection piece to pick up and find a centered reaction to common group challenges.
As a professional facilitator I like this book and will provide copies to my assistants and associates. Perhaps even higher praise is that I caught my wife and 17 year son reading it. My wife purchsed three to pass around at work. My son thought it was cool (my word, not his). I am satisfied that this book is good to have around.
This little book has far and away the best overview I've ever seen of the whole subject of group decision-making, and a series of practical tips and tricks for reaching collaborative group decisions, all the way from personal to international. Also a good summary of what's at stake for our beleaguered planet.
This is a very meaningful little book. All decision-making groups should memorize it.
